Career advice sessions

After feedback from our readers, it’s clear that some of you want more than just the articles, interviews, and other content already served up here. You want guidance that is personalised and tailor-fit to you.

We are pleased to announce that The Humanitarian Insider now offers individual career advice consultations. Whether you’re a student, recent graduate, or are making a mid-career transition, we would be thrilled to support you.

Our team has a combined nearly twenty years of experience in humanitarian recruitment, from hiring interns and entry-level positions to mid-level and senior specialists in many countries and organisations. We know what it’s like to review humanitarian CVs, cover letters, and interviewing techniques from the perspective of a hiring manager in the field — because we’ve done it hundreds of times.

Update: As of October 2023, career advice sessions are back! We are welcoming Anna to the Insider team, as our new career advisor.

Anna is a humanitarian development professional who has been working abroad for the last nine years, primarily in humanitarian emergencies and resettlement operations related to war, or natural disasters primarily in migration and refugee contexts.

She has worked for national and international NGOs, and United Nations agencies for the duration of her career in countries including: South Sudan, Bangladesh, Mozambique, The United States, Mexico, Qatar, Switzerland, and most recently in Poland, for the Ukraine Emergency Response.

She has also been a guest lecturer at academic institutions speaking about work in the humanitarian sector, and part of various teaching teams discussing themes of Security and Irregular Migration with civilian-military personnel in Latin America, specifically in Mexico and Colombia. She has a wide array of experiences from her many years in the field, strongly believes the field is the best classroom for learning the sector, and is looking forward to supporting the next generation of aid workers with advice for how to land your first humanitarian job.
